Recuperação de Áreas Degradadas através de Sistemas Agroflorestais

RESUMO
As áreas degradadas são um problema grave em todo o mundo, e é de
consenso que existe a necessidade de recuperá-las para aumentar a capacidade
de suporte da vida humana no planeta.
São inúmeras as técnicas de recuperação. Este trabalho estudou algumas
delas, analisando suas vantagens, desvantagens e dificuldades em relação aos
objetivos propostos. Dentre as técnicas, o foco do trabalho se deu sobre a
recuperação de áreas degradadas através de sistemas Agroflorestais.
Foram feitas análises teóricas através de um vasto levantamento
bibliográfico; e práticas através do estudo de quatro casos de recuperação, sendo
dois destes casos por sistemas Agroflorestais.
A avaliação dos casos foi feita através de uma metodologia cujos critérios
de pontuação levaram em conta os serviços ambientais ofertados e contaram com
uma técnica desenvolvida especialmente para a avaliação destes em recuperação
de áreas degradadas.
Sob este aspecto os Sistemas Agroflorestais se mostraram uma técnica
eficiente de recuperação com alto grau de sustentabilidade e melhor desempenho
na oferta dos serviços ambientais em relação às outras técnicas avaliadas.

ABSTRACT
The degraded areas of the earth are a serious problem for the whole world,
and it is agreed by many professionals that there is a need for its recuperation in
order to increase the capacity of support for human life in our planet.
There are many techniques of recuperation. This essay has looked into
some of them, analyzing advantages, disadvantages and difficulties in relation to
the proposed objectives. Within these techniques, the focus of the work has been
about the recuperation of degraded areas through Agroforestry systems.
Some theoretical analyses were made as a result of a vast bibliographic
research, practical work and throughout the study of four cases of recuperation.
Two of these cases were studied using Agroforestry systems.
The evaluation of the cases was made by a method of which criteria took
into consideration the ecosystem services offers.
Under this view, the Agroforestry Systems show to be an efficient technique
of recuperation with a high level of sustainability.

Análise das Trajetórias de Transição de Produtores de Base Ecológica de Ibiúna

RESUMO
O presente artigo tem o objetivo de contribuir com a discussão sobre a sustentabilidade da agricultura familiar brasileira, através da reconstrução das trajetórias de transição de produtores familiares e da construção de indicadores sociais de sustentabilidade, com base em princípios participativos. O estudo de caso foi realizado na comunidade rural do Verava, município de Ibiúna – SP, onde agricultores familiares aderiram ao modo de produção de base ecológica motivados pela necessidade de melhoria das condições de renda. Para entender esse processo,
foram reconstruídas as trajetórias de transição em períodos distintos, identificados e caracterizados os indicadores sociais de sustentabilidade, integrando na análise a visão dos agricultores do universo da pesquisa. Tal abordagem permitiu captar a dinâmica, os momentoschave do processo de transição, os avanços e os desafios no âmbito do desenvolvimento local. A pesquisa gerou um conjunto de conhecimentos que poderão servir de subsídio para a formulaçãode políticas públicas.

ABSTRACT
This article aims to contribute to the discussion on the family farming sustainability in Brazil, through the reconstruction of the trajectories of transition of familiar producers and the construction of social indicators of sustainability, based on participatory principles. The case study was conducted in the rural community of Verava, city of Ibiúna - SP, where farmers have joined the mode of production of ecological base motivated by the need for improvement of income. To understand this process, the trajectories of transition were econstructed, the social indicators of sustainability were identified and characterized integrating the vision of the farmers to the analysis of the sample. Such approach allowed to grasp the dynamics and the key moments of the transition process, as well as of the advances and challenges within the local development.
The research has generated a set of knowledge which can serve as subsidies for the formulation of public policies.

Family farmers and major retail chains in the Brazilian organic sector: Assessing new

Abstract (Resumo)

The expansion of the organic sector in Brazil is seen as leverage for the social
emancipation of the small family farmers who until now suffered from agricultural
and rural development policies. Besides the traditional alternatives circuits of organic
food and farming, new powerful capitalistic actors, such as supermarket chains, are
rapidly entering the Brazilian organic arena. Can family farming benefit from the
development of these “conventional” commercialisation circuits in the organic
sector? Research undertaken in 2007, in a green belt rural community of São Paulo,
shows how family farmers can benefit from the implication of large retail chains in
the organic sector and how an economically and ecologically outstanding agriculture
can be developed under these circumstances. However, we highlight the crucial role
played by social regulation: only strong solidarity between farmers and the
implication of technicians, militants and researchers in the process made it possible
to counter the negative effects of the liberal logic governing the development of
organic farming via the major retailers. Still, as tougher competition is expected on
the regional organic market, the development of short supply chains involving
“committed” consumers and the broader integration of the local farmers in networks
of organic militancy appear crucial. It would guarantee a continuous enhancement of
the local human and social capital, reinforce an emerging process of internal
conversion and allow for a stronger social regulation of the future local development
pattern.
